At
the age of eight, Lisa Marie watched her hometown of Quincy,
Massachusetts fade from view out the back window of her family's 1969
metallic-green, wood-paneled Dodge Coronet station wagon. Tucson, AZ
was 3000 miles and a world-away.
Public school educated at Tucson High School (go Badgers!) and The
University of Arizona, Lisa Marie was seduced by corporate greed for a
number of years after her schooling. Disenchanted with her career, she
examined what brought joy into her life.
Gorgeously colored gemstones, thrift store hunting, patina-darkened
sterling silver, the simplicity of desert-dweller form and function,
vintage accessories, and the overwhelming need to "make stuff" all
combined to create the signature Sirocco Design aesthetic.
Influences on Lisa Marie's work continue to be the annual Tucson gem
and mineral shows (an international fairytale-land of cultures,
languages, fossils, meteorites, gemstones, jewelry, sculpture, clothing
and more), silversmithing classes with uber-instructor Mark Ramsour,
consultation
with the staff at Starr Gems, research on historical jewelry, liberally
stolen and adapted inspiration from jewelry spotted in showcases, being
worn by passing strangers, & the work of other more talented
artists, Native American jewelry, the astounding Sonoran Desert, and
her beloved family, friends and clients.
Her various other occupations include: freelance writer for the Tucson
EZ-Guide and national trade magazines, advertising sales-person,
meteorite hunter, art show vendor and organizer, landscaper, on-call
retail sales assistant, and home remodeling facilitator.
Lisa Marie lives in central Tucson, AZ with her
itty, bitty kitty, Vegas Jane.
